Overlay Testing with Tinted Overlays
Visual Stress or Meares-Irlen syndrome
A number of people suffer discomfort when looking at a page of words. If the problem persists, even with a spectacle correction if one is required, then it could be due to a condition known as Meares-Irlen syndrome or Visual Stress. In many cases the discomfort can be reduced by changing the background to a certain colour. This can be achieved by placing a sheet of coloured plastic over the page (Overlay) or by wearing coloured glasses.
We recommend Overlay testing for people who may have reading difficulties or visual discomfort as a result of Dyslexia or other conditions. We can carry out a consultation to test for Visual Stress and provide a trial of coloured overlays.
